2021 TSEA Deadline Dates to Remember

TSEA Board Nominations Deadline: 
Monday, March 1 
4:30 p.m. 

The deadline for receiving nominating petitions for election to the TSEA Board of Directors is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021, which by policy is at least 60 days prior to mailing of the election ballots. Positions for election to a two-year term of office in 2021 are the Vice Presidents and the odd-numbered District board seats (districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11). The TSEA Board is the policy making and governing body of the Association.

The TSEA Constitution and Bylaws requires that nominations must: 

1) be submitted to the TSEA Executive Director in writing, 
2) be signed by the nominee, 
3) include 25 valid signatures of TSEA members, and 
4) state the position desired 

Nominees for Vice President, Secretary or District board seats, must be a member in good standing of TSEA and have been a member for at least one full year by the deadline for receiving nominations.

The President, Secretary and Treasurer are elected by the statewide membership. The twelve (12) district members of the Board of Directors shall be elected by and from chapter members of the 12 board election districts. 

The TSEA Constitution states that if elected to a Board seat, members may not hold another elected office in the Association, either at the state or local chapter level. 

Bylaws Article 2, Section 4 – Voting states, “In the event only one qualified nominee is presented as required in Section 2 of this article, said nominee shall be deemed elected and the position shall not be included on any ballot mailed to members.” 

By the deadline, candidates shall also provide a photograph and complete a bio form of information to include in the Co-Worker that will be mailed prior to the deadline for mailing ballots. 

Ballots for the election will be counted by the Election Certification Committee of TSEA on June 1, 2021 at the TSEA Office.

Constitution & Bylaws Proposals Deadline:

Resolutions Proposals Deadline: 
Friday, March 26 
4:30 p.m. 

Proposed changes to the TSEA CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS must be received at the TSEA office by the deadline of Friday, March 19. TSEA policy requires these proposed changes be submitted in final form at least 90 days prior to the convening of the RA. 

Additionally, any proposed RESOLUTION must be received by the deadline of Friday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m. TSEA policy requires that resolutions be submitted no later than a March date set annually by the Board. 

Constitution & Bylaws or Resolution proposals must be submitted in their final form (typed) and may be mailed, faxed or emailed to the office by the deadline.

West TN Sick Leave Bank Nominations Deadline: 
Thursday, April 15 
4:30 p.m. 

The deadline for submitting nominations for West region representative to the Sick Leave Bank is 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, which is at least 60 days prior to the convening of the RA. The Sick Leave Board of Trustees sets policy and reviews appeals of bank members who are denied days from the bank. 

Nominations may NOT be accepted from the Department of Health (east TN Rep) or the Departments of F&A or TennCare (middle TN election candidates) as these departments already hold positions. All nominations must be members in good standing of the TSEA for at least one (1) full year immediately preceding the April 15 deadline; must be in writing; must be signed by the nominees; must include the nominee’s department and chapter, and must include the signatures of 25 TSEA members. A photo and information about the candidates will be printed in the Co-Worker prior to the election.

Scholarship Applications Deadline: 
Thursday. April 1 
4:30 p.m. 

One of TSEA’s great membership benefits is the awarding of 21 – $750 scholarship awards to deserving High school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are dependent children of active or retired TSEA members, or to a TSEA members themselves, who are eligible once they have at least one year of TSEA membership as of April 1 of the award year. 

Beginning in 2020, TSEA also awards annually a $1000 scholarship to a college sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Criminal Justice in honor of the life and work of TSEA member and TDOC employee Debra K. Johnson. 

TSEA Scholarship applicants must plan to enroll in the fall as a full-time student in an accredited and approved college, university or technical school and must have a minimum ACT score of 20 or a minimum score of 940 on the SAT. 

Awards are not renewable; however, non-winning students can reapply each year as long as they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.

Remember, completed applications must be postmarked or received by ISTS electronically by April 1, 2021 to be considered for scholarship awards. 

Chapter Award Nominations Deadline:

Chapter award nominations are to be submitted at least 45 days prior to the Representative Assembly. For 2021 the deadline is Monday, May 3. 

Chapter awards nominations are accepted for: 

• Chapter Recruitment & Retention Award 
• Humanitarian Award 
• Chapter Outstanding Member Recognition 
• Hall of Fame Award 
• Rising Star Award 

All award nominations must be typed when submitted. Award nomination forms are available from the TSEA office and can be sent to you via e-mail.
