Governor Lee’s Upcoming State of the State Address

On Monday, February 8, 2021, Gov. Lee will give his third State of the State address before a joint session of the Tennessee General Assembly. For more information about the State of the State, including links to view the Governor’s address, click here.

The top priority of the TSEA over the next two years of the 112th General Assembly is to secure the proper monetary reward, whether by salary raises, hazardous duty pay, or bonuses to reflect the sacrifice and dedication shown by state and higher education employees during the pandemic.

TSEA has met with and has had communications with the Governor’s administration and your legislators about the need to reward the commitment, dedication, and hard work of our great state employees. We have also heard positive feedback about letters and phone calls many of you have sent.

We are encouraged by what we are hearing during some of those recent meetings and conversations. We believe there is support for rewarding state and higher ed employees for their dedication and hard work during the pandemic.

Recent budget numbers show positive signs of growth. The December revenue report showed TN’s Yearly revenues for five months were $732.8 million more than the budgeted estimate. We believe funding should now be available to secure the proper monetary rewards, whether by salary raises, hazardous duty pay, or bonuses to reflect the sacrifice and dedication shown by state and higher education employees during the pandemic.

Soon following the governor’s Monday address he will release his proposed FY21/22 state budget. We will review his proposal and let you know if funding is included for state and higher ed employees.

Thank you for all you do every day serving Tennessee and for being a member of TSEA!
