Judge delays decision on Greene Valley until next week

NASHVILLE – The federal judge in the Clover Bottom Class Action Lawsuit today delayed making a decision on whether to approve a settlement plan that would close Greene Valley Developmental Center in Greeneville.

The hearing was held this afternoon in United State District Court, Middle District in Nashville.  Multiple parties including the State of Tennessee were seeking to have Judge Sharp approve a proposed Agreed Order that required the closure of the Greeneville facility.

Over the course of three hours, the judge heard from attorneys that represented parties to the lawsuit, he listened to testimony from an attorney representing family members opposed to the closure of Greene Valley, and he heard from individuals that currently have family members at Greene Valley.  State Representative David Hawk was permitted to address the court, and Representatives Jeremy Faison and Kelly Keisling were in attendance.

TSEA President Bryan Merritt along with Executive Director John Summers, Government Affairs Director Randy Stamps, and Field Representative Lisa Moffett also attended today’s hearing.

A ruling on both the Agreed Order and a Motion to intervene in the lawsuit by family members opposed to the closing of Greene Valley Developmental Center is expected to be handed down by the end of next week.
