TSEA holds Representative Assembly virtually

NASHVILLE – After an unprecedented year for state employees, and the world, TSEA held its first-ever Virtual Representative Assembly on Friday, August 21, 2020.

A Virtual Representative Assembly was necessary this year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Approximately 100 members attended the R.A. Business Session virtually via Zoom with about 25 Board members, TEAM PAC members, and staff attending in person.

There were three separate meetings held virtually, a Board meeting, a TEAM PAC meeting, and the R.A. Business session.

A couple of surprise guests joined our meetings throughout the day, including House Speaker Cameron Sexton, who joined the TEAM PAC meeting for about 20 minutes. Speaker Sexton was very generous with his time answering questions and explaining some finer details of the budget process. He also talked about what we might anticipate for the legislature conducting their meetings in 2021 and access to the General Assembly. We are grateful to Speaker Sexton for making time in his schedule for state employees.

During the R.A. business session, State Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver, an accomplished singer/songwriter, joined the virtual meeting from her home and performed a couple of songs. Rep. Weaver thanked state employees for the great work they do and wished us well. Thank you, Rep. Weaver, for sharing your talents with our group and for supporting state employees.

There were no constitution or by-laws proposals to discuss this year, so the only major business item for delegates to vote on was the FY 2020/2021 association budget, which passed without opposition.

We appreciate all of this year’s delegates who made time to attend TSEA’s first-ever Virtual Representative Assembly. While not ideal, it was a success and testament to our members’ commitment and the strength of our association. Thank you for being a member of TSEA and for all you do for Tennessee!

TSEA’s Representative Assembly is an annual business meeting of your association where chapter delegates from 47 chapters can attend committee meetings, vote on association constitution, resolution, and by-laws proposals, adopt the association’s budget, install new board members, attend workshops, and fellowship with members in other chapters across the state. This year chapter delegates attended virtually by Zoom.
