Update: Voluntary Separation Program

The Tennessee Department of Human Resources recently announced to state employees an update about the Voluntary Separation Program (VSP). In June 2020, the Tennessee General Assembly approved funding to implement a Voluntary Separation Program in state government to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness. At present, the Department of Human Resources continues to develop the program. Below is an update on the VSP:

What is a Voluntary Separation Program?

A Voluntary Separation Program (VSP), also referred to as a buy-out, is a lump-sum payment made to eligible employees who separate through resignation. As reflected in its title, a decision to take a VSP must be voluntary.

Who will be offered a VSP?

The Department of Human Resources is utilizing workforce data to assist agencies in identifying the VSP eligible job classifications to improve efficient, effective workforce management. Only employees in the identified classifications will be eligible for the VSP.

When will employees receive more information about the VSP?

More information about the VSP will be provided as available. Employees can expect to receive a VSP update in 2021.
