Did you know TSEA helped make the long Thanksgiving weekend possible?
In 1988, after hearing members’ concerns about limited leave during Thanksgiving, TSEA drafted legislation allowing the Governor to swap Columbus Day for the Friday after Thanksgiving.
When surveyed, state employees voted six to one for the change and Governor McWherter made it official. This tradition remains one of the most appreciated benefits in state service — a reminder of what happens when employees speak up and TSEA takes action.
