TSEA turns 50

On September 4, 1974, the Tennessee State Employees Association was officially founded, beginning our journey of advocacy, protection, and progress for state employees. Today, we celebrate 50 years of standing up for the rights, pay, and benefits of those who keep Tennessee moving forward.

“While we are young at heart, we have made significant accomplishments over those 50 years, and we are proud,” Executive Director LaTanya McAdoo said. “We hope you will take a few minutes today, wherever you are, to congratulate yourself and your co-workers and say, “Happy Birthday, TSEA!”

Over the past 50 years, TSEA has secured remarkable victories, including working to change Tennessee law to place the burden of proof on the appealing party at Step 3 of grievances, establishing the first state-matched 401(k) program, creating the Sick Leave Bank with employee representation, protecting personal information by restricting public access to personnel files, expanding leave and benefits options, successfully blocking attempts to privatize vital state services, securing whistleblower protections, and much, much more.
