Good News from Employee Rights

TSEA members enjoy access to an Employee Rights staff that provides advice, assistance, and representation for job-related problems and questions including applications, registers and ratings, performance evaluations, reductions-in-force (RIF), workplace safety, and employee disciplinary actions.

Here are a few examples of how TSEA’s Employee Rights staff has helped a few members just over the last month:

1. A member with the Department of Children’s Services had their 1-day suspension reduced to an oral warning and was reimbursed their suspension day.

2. A member with the Department of Children’s Services had their 2-day suspension overturned and was restored back pay and benefits.

3. A member with the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services was suspended and demoted, the suspension and demotion were removed from their file, member decided to resign and agreed to a one-time settlement amount.

4. A member with the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities had their 4 day suspension overturned and was restored all leave, back pay and benefits.

5. A member with the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities was terminated. After a mediation it was agreed that our member would resign and was given a one-time settlement amount.

6. A member with the Department of Correction had their 30-day suspension reduced to 5 days and was restored leave, back pay and benefits.

7. A member with the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities was suspended. The judge reduced the suspension and awarded member back pay and benefits for those days.

8. A member with the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services was terminated, it was reduced to a 10-day suspension after a Step 1 hearing. Then the 10-day suspension was dismissed and the judge ordered the department to reimburse all lost wages.

9. A member with the Department of Children’s Services was suspended. The judge rescinded their suspension and awarded them back pay for their lost wages.
