DOHR provides Employee Proficiency Assessment update – more details to come in Jan 2024

This week, DOHR Commissioner Juan Williams sent a communication to all Executive Branch employees providing next steps for the Employee Proficiency Assessment program, including some insight into who might be considered for pay raises under the program. More details on potential salary adjustments will be made available in January, according to the commissioner. His email to employees is included below.

Dear Executive Branch Employees,
As we continue our commitment to enhancing the Tennessee State Government’s salary structure, I am pleased to inform you about the next steps of the Employee Proficiency Assessment (EPA) program. The EPA program marks the next phase in our efforts to create more opportunities for compensation growth toward market-competitive pay.

With the conclusion of proficiency conversations, the EPA project team, agency human resources offices, and appointing authorities are assessing where additional pay changes could be made based on proficiency with the available budget.

The assessment will consider the competitive market salary for each job, the proficiency ratings of employees in those positions, employee performance ratings, and employee wages compared to the market-competitive range. Pay increases will be considered for employees who are below target salary ranges.

In January, you will receive more details on potential salary adjustments. In the meantime, if you have questions about the EPA program, please contact your agency’s Human Resources Office.

As you celebrate the holiday season with your loved ones, I appreciate your service to the State of Tennessee.

Sincerely,

Juan Williams, Commissioner
