What is the Sick Leave Bank?
The sick Leave Bank provides sick leave to qualifying employees who are unable to work as a result of a personal illness, injury, disability, medical condition, or quarantine.
By donating four (4) days to the Sick Leave Bank, you will be eligible to receive up to 90 days of additional sick leave from the bank in the event you run out of accrued sick leave and your medical documentation falls within the Sick Leave Bank guidelines. In addition, the bank usually requires donation of one (1) day of sick leave annually as part of the annual assessment; however, no assessment of additional days was needed for 2018 or 2019 because the state has managed the bank so well.
Also, as long as you are a member of the Sick Leave Bank, your co-workers can donate additional time after you have exhausted your 90 Sick Leave Bank days. If you are not a member, there is no way for your co-workers to donate their sick leave to you should the need arise.
To join the Sick Leave Bank, you must have an accrued sick leave balance of six days at the end of October.
